What a glass of wine costs in London, New York and Paris
Published . Wine Labs extract, 2026-11-04. Latest lists from the preceding 12 months; stored USD prices. Screened glasses priced $3–$100.
The typical venue in this sample lists a glass at $14.90 in London, $17 in New York and $10.12 in Paris. We first take the median glass price at each venue, then take the median across venues. Each venue has the same weight.
The comparison covers 26,667 screened entries at 2,153 venues within 10 km of each city centre. It describes prices as listed. Most entries do not state a pour size in the structured format, so these figures do not compare equal volumes of wine.

New York has the highest typical price in this sample
The New York figure is $2.10 above London and $6.88 above Paris. The mix of venues, wines and pour sizes differs between cities; this is not a matched-wine price test.
The middle half of venues gives a better sense of the spread than a single city number. In each row below, the range runs from the 25th to the 75th percentile of venue median prices.

A cheaper first glass is easier to find in the Paris sample
At 93.8% of the Paris venues, at least one screened glass costs less than $15. The share is 87.0% in London and 52.8% in New York. A venue with one cheaper option counts once, however many expensive wines it also lists.
The median of each venue’s cheapest screened glass is $7.75 in Paris, $10.58 in London and $14 in New York. These are sample benchmarks for a first look at the list, not advertised offers available to book today.

A long list should not set the city price
Pooling every entry gives more influence to venues with longer lists. Our headline calculation gives every eligible venue one vote. The pooled medians are higher in all three cities, as the table shows.
We also lowered the price ceiling from $100 to $60 and repeated the venue calculation, retaining only venues with at least three surviving entries. The ordering stays the same. A separate, stricter retail-price check also leaves the ordering unchanged.
Sensitivity checks use the same city scopes and list dates. Each alternative recalculates venue medians and requires at least three entries per venue.
| City | Headline: venues equally weighted | All entries pooled | Ceiling lowered to $60 | Glass no higher than retail reference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| London | $14.90 | $16.45 | $14.87 (915 venues) | $15.86 (754 venues) |
| New York | $17 | $18 | $17 (591 venues) | $17 (464 venues) |
| Paris | $10.12 | $11.20 | $10.11 (642 venues) | $9.72 (584 venues) |
The missing number is the size of the pour
An entry marked “glass” is not a measurement. We keep explicit “glass 125ml”, “glass 175ml” and similar formats, but leave an unspecified glass unspecified. We do not turn bottles into inferred glasses or assume that every glass is 150 ml.
Only a small share of the structured formats carry a volume. The table measures that field’s completeness, not what restaurants tell guests on their full menus. UK guidance specifies several legal measures for still wine by the glass; it cannot tell us which measure an unspecified entry represents.
Volume stated in the structured glass format. These entries remain in the price sample at their listed price.
| City | Entries with stated ml | All screened entries | Share with stated ml |
|---|---|---|---|
| London | 756 | 14,756 | 5.1% |
| New York | 5 | 6,221 | 0.1% |
| Paris | 61 | 5,690 | 1.1% |
The menu price is only part of the bill
All amounts here use the USD prices already stored by Wine Labs. The extract does not expose the original currency amounts or conversion dates, so we cannot provide a fresh pounds-or-euros comparison. We add no tax, service charge or tip.
The source tables do not say which charges are included in each entry. French consumer guidance says displayed restaurant prices include tax and service. New York State treats restaurant food and drink as taxable, subject to its stated exceptions. Check the actual menu and bill before treating any of these figures as a final cost.

Questions
How much does a glass of wine cost in London, New York and Paris?
In this screened sample, the median of venue median glass prices is $14.90 in London, $17 in New York and $10.12 in Paris. These are stored USD menu prices for explicit glasses priced $3–$100, with venues equally weighted. Pour volumes and final-bill charges are not standardised.
Is the Paris glass the same size as the London or New York glass?
We cannot establish that from these data. Most entries are marked glass without a structured volume. We report prices as listed and do not convert them to a standard pour size.
Does this comparison include tax and service?
It preserves the stored menu price with no added tax, service or tip. The source tables do not identify included charges per entry. These figures should not be read as comparable final bills.

Sources and method
Extracted 2026-11-04 from Wine Labs’ restaurant offer and venue tables. For each venue we use its newest list dated on or before extraction, provided that list is within the preceding year. Included list dates run from 2025-11-13 to 2026-11-04. A list timestamp records collection, not a confirmed menu revision or a live quote.
Each catchment is a 10,000-metre great-circle radius: London (51.5074, −0.1278), New York (40.7128, −74.0060), Paris (48.8566, 2.3522). We require the expected country and, for New York, state NY or New York to exclude nearby New Jersey venues. These circles include some suburbs and omit outer districts; they are not administrative city boundaries.
Venues with the same lower-case trimmed name and coordinates rounded to four decimals are collapsed to the record with the newest list. Different names or coordinates can still leave duplicate businesses. Exact duplicate venue/wine-name/vintage/format/price/reference-price rows count once. Different vintages, formats and prices remain separate entries.
Only explicit glass formats qualify: “glass” or “glass Nml”. Plain ml formats, bottles, carafes and inferred glasses do not qualify. We require is_wine = 1, is_outlier = 0 and a stored USD price from $3 through $100. This intentionally excludes very cheap entries and expensive pours; it is not a census of all glasses.
Where a positive retail benchmark exists, a glass must cost no more than twice that benchmark; when the benchmark is $200 or more, the glass must cost no more than the benchmark. Missing or nonpositive retail references do not cause exclusion. The stricter sensitivity check allows no glass price above a positive retail reference; missing references remain eligible.
Some parsed lists contain bottle prices labelled as glasses. We exclude an entire menu if it has more than 100 distinct explicit glass entries, or any explicit wine price above $1,000 among rows not already flagged as outliers. After cleaning, a venue needs at least three entries. These rules remove suspicious menus and some legitimate extensive or luxury selections. Price-tail review informed the rules; residual parsing and matching errors remain possible.
For each venue we calculate the median of surviving listed prices. City medians and quartiles use those venue medians with equal weight and linear interpolation. Cheapest-glass results take each venue’s minimum surviving price. The below-$15 share counts eligible venues with at least one price strictly below $15. Prices are rounded only for display; these descriptive figures are not sales, consumer spending or causal estimates of a city premium.
