Top Sauvignon Blanc by Region, Style and Price in 2026

Live prices for 11,394 Sauvignon Blancs at 28,526 sellers: medians by region, the most stocked and most expensive bottles, and auction results.

Most Sauvignon Blanc is cheap. Of the 11,394 varietal Sauvignon Blancs that Wine Labs found on sale in a standard 750 ml bottle this autumn, 72% have a median shelf price under $25. Only 135 wines, about 1.2%, sit above $100.

That makes "top Sauvignon Blanc" two different questions. One is which bottles the market actually stocks. The other is which bottles the market pays a premium for. This guide answers both with live retail prices from 28,526 sellers and two years of auction results, collected by Wine Labs on November 4, 2026.

A listing here is one wine at one seller. When a seller has several prices for the same wine, such as different vintages or delivery apps, we take that seller's median. This stops one large retailer from deciding the result.

The seller base is US-heavy. US sellers account for 394,873 of the 535,647 listings. Country and region medians below therefore reflect what is on shelves, mostly American shelves, and not what each region produces.

Price bands: where the market sits

The $15 to $25 band holds a third of the wines but 38% of the listings. Those wines are stocked more widely than average. That is where the big Marlborough and California brands sit.

Above $50, the market thins fast. Fewer than 650 Sauvignon Blancs have a median price over $50. Most of them come from a short list of places: Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Bordeaux, Napa Valley and Austria.

Australia7497,16315,871$8.39$11.99$16.37$22.77

Four things stand out.

Sancerre is the price anchor. Its median is $37.99, more than twice Marlborough's $15.99. Its 25th percentile, $30.00, is above the 90th percentile of Marlborough, Washington, Chile and Australia. A cheap Sancerre still costs more than an expensive Marlborough.

Marlborough is the volume anchor. It has 142,020 listings, more than a quarter of all listings in the snapshot, at 17,616 sellers. The spread is narrow: half of all listings fall between $13.58 and $19.99. That narrow band is why Marlborough is easy to stock and hard to differentiate on price.

Bordeaux has the longest tail. Its median, $16.12, looks like an everyday white. Its 90th percentile, $133.59, does not. A few classed-growth whites pull the top up. Note that most white Bordeaux is a Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon blend. This analysis covers only wines catalogued as varietal Sauvignon Blanc, so Bordeaux is under-represented.

Austria has the widest middle band. Austrian Sauvignon Blanc runs from $17.67 at the 25th percentile to $49.93 at the 75th. An international sensory and chemical comparison catalogued by the University of Limerick linked Austrian examples with stone fruit, Marlborough with pronounced green characters, and French wines with more subdued aromatics. Price follows a similar split. The New World green-fruit style is cheap and plentiful. The Old World mineral style is scarcer and dearer.

The most widely stocked Sauvignon Blancs

These are the wines that the most sellers list. They are the bottles a shopper is most likely to find, and the ones a retailer is most often priced against.

Eight of the fifteen are from Marlborough. The other seven are Californian. No French wine makes the list.

Cloudy Bay is the outlier. It is stocked almost as widely as the mass-market brands, at about twice their price. It is the closest thing the category has to a widely distributed premium benchmark.

The spread inside each row matters too. Kim Crawford's 10th and 90th percentile prices are $10 apart on a wine with a median under $19. For a widely stocked wine, the gap between sellers is often larger than the gap between brands.

Six of the fifteen come from one estate: Didier Dagueneau, now run by Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau. Several of its wines carry the Vin de France label rather than the Pouilly-Fumé appellation. A region filter alone would miss them.

Napa contributes the single most expensive wine, Screaming Eagle, and two more in the top fifteen. Bordeaux contributes only Pavillon Blanc, which is also the most widely stocked wine on this list at 466 sellers.

Some ranges are wide. Kenzo Estate Asatsuyu runs from $82.25 to $1,472.41 between the 10th and 90th percentiles. That spread usually means vintages, formats or listings that a buyer should check line by line. A median does not replace that check.

Same bottle, different country

Retail prices for one wine vary by market. We compared Cloudy Bay and Kim Crawford across every country with at least 20 sellers.

A dash means fewer than 20 sellers in that country.

Cloudy Bay costs $25.92 at home and $36.97 in the US, a 43% premium. Kim Crawford costs $8.32 in New Zealand and $18.54 in the US, more than double. The cheaper the wine, the bigger the share of its shelf price that goes to freight, duty and distribution.

Price bases differ by country. European and New Zealand shelf prices usually include VAT or GST. US prices usually exclude sales tax. Compare within a market before you compare across markets.

Supply is not the constraint at the bottom end. The USDA New Zealand Wine Market Snapshot records Sauvignon Blanc harvests of 216,078 tonnes in 2015, 393,956 tonnes in 2022 and 298,479 tonnes in 2024. It also records exports rising from 181.9 million litres in 2016 to 251.1 million litres in 2025. In California, the Wine Institute's Sauvignon Blanc fact sheet records 17,970 acres in 2025, led by Sonoma, Napa and Lake counties.

What Sauvignon Blanc fetches at auction

Sauvignon Blanc is a small part of the secondary market. From November 2024 to November 2026, Wine Labs recorded 8,693 sold single-wine Sauvignon Blanc lots across 983 wines and 72 auction houses. That is 0.39% of the 2,223,965 sold lots in the same period. The median price was $29.63 per 750 ml bottle, including buyer's premium.

The table lists wines with at least 20 lots from at least three auction houses, and compares their median auction price with their current median retail price.

Every wine on the list sells for less at auction than its current retail median. The ratio runs from 0.46 for Eisele Vineyard to 0.89 for Silex.

Two factors are likely behind most of the gap. First, auction lots span many vintages, while retail mostly offers the current release. Second, retail prices are asking prices and auction prices are executed prices. The comparison is not vintage-matched. Use it as a liquidity signal, not a valuation.

The signal is still useful. Dagueneau's Silex and Pur Sang hold close to 90% of retail at auction, with lots at 33 and 28 houses. Those wines have a real resale market. Only 983 Sauvignon Blancs sold at auction at all in two years, against 11,394 on retail shelves. For most of the category, there is no secondary market.

How to use these numbers

For shoppers. Decide the style first, then the band. Green, pungent Marlborough is easy to find at $13.58 to $19.99. The flinty Loire style starts around $25 in Pouilly-Fumé and $30 in Sancerre. Paying more inside a band does not guarantee a better wine. A Winemag.co.za assessment of South African Sauvignon Blanc found that 33 wines rated 90 points or higher averaged R212 a bottle in 2025, and its Top 10 averaged R241. The price step from the wider high-scoring group to the Top 10 was modest.

For retailers. On the widely stocked brands, your competitors set your price. Kim Crawford is listed by 7,872 sellers. Know where you sit inside that $13.99 to $23.99 range. On the scarce wines, the price spread is wide and buyers compare across borders.

For collectors. Only a few Sauvignon Blancs hold value. Check the auction-to-retail ratio and the number of auction houses before you buy a case to resell. A wine with lots at 30 houses has a market. A wine with lots at one house has a sale.

Wine Labs tracks retail, auction and exchange prices for these wines and more: see fine wine market data, market opportunity analysis and auction results.

Data methodology: Wine Labs retail offers from current merchant offers and current wine shop offers, snapshot November 4, 2026. Only offers seen on or after August 6, 2026 (the last 90 days) are included. The wine set is every wine catalogued with Sauvignon Blanc as its single grape and product type "wine" (19,217 wines); blends are excluded. Prices are in USD, standard 750 ml bottles only, between $1 and $5,000. Offers are deduplicated to one median price per seller per wine; chains count as one seller, independent shops count individually. Regions come from the wine's catalog region. Region, wine and country rows need at least 20 listings or sellers. Auction figures use sold, single-wine lots from November 1, 2024 to November 4, 2026, exclude mixed lots and flagged outliers, and use the realised price including buyer's premium per 750 ml equivalent. Auction-to-retail ratios compare all-vintage auction medians with current retail medians and are not vintage-matched.
