WineFi x Wine Labs

Powering the Most Data-Driven Wine Investment Platform
WineFi set out to reimagine wine investment for modern investors, building transparently and in public. They partnered with Wine Labs to create the data foundation required to match wines at scale, surface real market signals, and deliver investor-grade insights from day one. What followed was a true collaboration, working hand-in-hand to build custom tools, refine matching algorithms, and unlock data sources that power every part of their platform.
"The data quality and matching accuracy are outstanding. Our match rates are significantly better than anything else we tested. What really sets Wine Labs apart is how they deliver improvements. The matcher keeps getting better without us lifting a finger. It's the kind of compounding value that lets us focus on building for investors instead of wrestling with data problems."

About WineFi
WineFi is building a new generation wine investment platform with the conviction that investors deserve clarity, speed, and radical transparency. The team works in public, ships iteratively, and rallies a community of investors around data-backed decisions.
The Challenge
Owning the mantle of the most data-driven wine investment platform required a durable data backbone. WineFi needed to reconcile over 150,000 wine records, connect fragmented transaction histories across multiple marketplaces, and surface live market signals while keeping their product velocity high.
- Fragmented wine identities limited modeling power: With over 150,000 rows of historical data to reconcile, vineyard, cuvée, vintage, format variations, and typos made off-the-shelf matchers unreliable and time-consuming to validate.
- Transaction blind spots dulled signal discovery: Key exchange and auction feeds from major international marketplaces were siloed, preventing the team from seeing price discoveries as they happened across the global wine trade.
- Data infrastructure had to keep pace with shipping: The team runs lean and needed partners who could layer on insight without introducing long procurement cycles or slowing experiments.
What We Delivered
A matching dashboard built for their workflow
We built a matching dashboard tailored to WineFi's needs. They can upload and organize data into different batches, track progress across multiple sources, and let our engine reconcile labels, vintages, and format variations automatically. In head-to-head testing against a popular LWIN-based matcher, our engine achieved 94.5% coverage compared to their 65% baseline.
The dashboard makes it easier to consume results and share them across the team via shareable links. As we improve the matcher and it learns over time, we can deliver new matches automatically without WineFi needing to re-upload their data. Their match rates improve month-over-month with zero additional effort.
Live market intelligence from premium sources
We opened up comprehensive exchange and auction feeds covering the most liquid wine marketplaces.
- •Exchange data: Daily posted trades and order books from three major trading platforms covering Europe and international markets
- •Auction data: Results and transactions from seven leading international auction houses spanning the US, UK, and Europe
All data is delivered via REST API with daily refreshes. The structured format allows WineFi to programmatically integrate market signals into their pricing models, investor reports, and platform features without manual data wrangling.
Flexible engagement built for growth
Our month-to-month partnership gives WineFi the freedom to scale up or down based on their roadmap. When they needed specific features in the matching dashboard, like batch management and shareable links, we built them together. When they want to add new data providers, they can do so on demand with no long-term commitment.
Pricing stays predictable with multi-year visibility, and both teams stay focused on measurable outputs every month. No procurement friction, no vendor lock-in, no waiting months for feature requests. Just tight feedback loops and continuous improvement.
Impact
- 150,000+ wines reconciled at scale: WineFi has matched over 150,000 wines through our custom dashboard, organizing data into batches and tracking progress in real time. Match rates continuously improve as we enhance the underlying engine. What would have taken months of manual work was completed in weeks, and keeps getting better.
- Team-wide visibility with shareable results: Match reports and progress updates are accessible via shareable links, enabling WineFi's engineers, analysts, and leadership to collaborate seamlessly without email chains or version control nightmares.
- Real-time access to 10+ premium marketplaces: Daily API updates from exchanges and auction houses give WineFi fresh transaction signals every morning, covering the world's most liquid wine trading venues and fueling data-driven decisions across the business.
- Confidence in every investor update: With reconciled identities and transaction-backed pricing, the WineFi team can communicate performance without caveats, manual validation delays, or data integrity questions.
- Faster product velocity through collaboration: By working hand-in-hand and shipping features like batch management and shareable links based on real needs, both teams stay focused on outputs that matter. Engineers and analysts build on the same trusted dataset, unlocking more time for investor-facing innovation.
