Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon is the top Napa Valley Cabernet of HALL Wines, the winery Kathryn and Craig Hall run in St. Helena and Rutherford. The winery calls it the pinnacle of its range: a blend built around its Sacrashe Vineyard in the Rutherford hills, with mountain fruit from other Napa sites (2023 Kathryn Hall).
Below is what the winery has published about the people, the vineyards and the current release, and what the wine sells for today in shops, at auction and on restaurant lists. The prices come from Wine Labs data collected on November 4, 2026.

Who makes Kathryn Hall
Kathryn Walt Hall has worked in the California wine business since her family bought a vineyard in 1972. She owns HALL, WALT and BACA Wines with her husband, Craig Hall, and served as US Ambassador to Austria from 1997 to 2001 (HALL team). The winery says she first worked in her family's Mendocino vineyards (About HALL).
The Halls bought the Rutherford property in 1995 and opened it to visitors in 2005. In 2003 they bought the old Bergfeld Winery in St. Helena, and in 2013 they finished restoring its 1885 building next to a new winery that the company describes as California's first LEED Gold certified winery (About HALL).
Mike Reynolds joined in 2002, at what the winery calls its inception, as founding winemaker. He became president in 2006 and is still on the blending team. Megan Gunderson joined in 2005 as enologist and was promoted to vice president of winemaking in 2018. She leads the wine program for HALL, WALT and BACA (HALL team).
Where the fruit comes from
The winery lists the 2023 Kathryn Hall as coming from Sacrashe, HALL estate fruit, Dellar-Friedkin and selected grower partners. Its appellations are Napa Valley and Rutherford. Sacrashe sits at 790 feet, just above the eastern edge of the Rutherford appellation, on volcanic tuff mixed with rock over bedrock. Lake Hennessey cools the site (2023 Kathryn Hall).
Dellar-Friedkin is 8.3 acres of rocky hillside in the Soda Canyon area, at 250 to 350 feet. Across all its wines, HALL gets about half its grapes from estate vineyards and the rest from growers around the valley (HALL vineyards).
The 2023 vintage
HALL publishes the cellar details for the current release only, so we don't give a vintage table here. The 2023 is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot, aged 24 months in French oak, 70% of it new. The winery describes 2023 as a late season: a long wet winter, a cool spring that delayed budbreak by several weeks, and a mild summer that gave the fruit long hang time (2023 Kathryn Hall).
