Chappellet Pritchard Hill Cabernet: History, Vineyard and Prices in 2026
Chappellet Pritchard Hill Cabernet: the family, the winemaker and the mountain vineyard, plus prices from 367 shops, 925 auction sales and 290 restaurants.
The Chappellet Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is the top wine of Chappellet, the family winery on the eastern slopes of Napa Valley. Donn and Molly Chappellet founded it in 1967 (The Chappellet Story). The Pritchard Hill bottling came later, in 1997, as a small lot of the best wine from the estate (Chappellet).
Below is what the winery has published about the family, its winemaker and the mountain vineyard, and what the wine sells for today in shops, at auction and on restaurant lists. The prices come from Wine Labs data collected on November 4, 2026.

The family and the winery
Donn and Molly Chappellet took the advice of the winemaker André Tchelistcheff and settled on the rocky eastern side of the valley (The Chappellet Story). Building on the winery started in 1968, to a design by the artist Ed Moses. Because it was not finished in time, the Mondavi family crushed Chappellet's first vintage. Donn released his first commercial Cabernet Sauvignon in 1969 (Chappellet).
In 1980 Donn signed the bottles of a vintage he thought was special, which became the first Signature Cabernet. Signature became a regular wine from 1984. In 1997, as cult wines rose in Napa, the family took the next step and bottled the Pritchard Hill Cabernet. Donn Chappellet died in 2016 (Chappellet).
The second generation now runs the winery, led by Cyril, Carissa and Dominic Chappellet, with Lygia and Alexa Chappellet on the board (The Chappellet Story). Cyril came back to Pritchard Hill in 1988 and was elected chairman of the family board in 2012 (Chappellet).
Who makes the wine
Phillip Corallo-Titus has made Chappellet's wines for more than 30 years. He first joined as assistant winemaker in 1981 and stayed four years, then worked at Stratford and Cartlidge & Brown. Donn Chappellet asked him back as winemaker in 1990. His title today is Vice President of Winemaking, and he works with Winemaker Ry Richards and Director of Vineyard Operations Andrew Opatz (Phillip Corallo-Titus biography).
Where the fruit comes from
The estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill runs from 800 to 1,800 feet above sea level. The soils are thin and volcanic, with varying depths of Sobrante loam and Hambright rock outcrop. Only 104 of the property's 640 acres are planted. Cabernet Sauvignon covers 85 of those acres, and the rest is small blocks of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Chenin Blanc. The vineyard was certified organic by CCOF in 2012 (Chappellet Estate Vineyard).
The team farms the hill block by block, with 40 blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon. The block count for the whole estate differs between sources: the 2024 vineyard sheet gives 47 blocks and ten Cabernet clones, while the Pritchard Hill page gives 48 blocks and nine clones.
The winery says the Wine Advocate gave 100 points to the 2012 and 2016 Pritchard Hill Cabernets (Chappellet). We did not find per-vintage tech sheets with blends on the winery's site, so this post has no blend table.
What Chappellet Pritchard Hill costs today
On November 4, 2026, 367 sellers had the wine on offer in a 750 ml bottle. Almost all are in the US (311 sellers), with a handful in the UK (7) and in France, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Japan (5 each). Half of all offers sit between $287 and $330, and the median is $300.
Per 750 ml bottle, US dollars, November 2026. Chappellet shows no price online.
| Channel | Price | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Auction | $187 | Median of 925 sales, buyer's premium included |
| Shops | $300 | Median of 367 sellers, all vintages |
| Restaurants | $575 | Median of 290 wine lists |
These three prices don't measure the same thing. Shop prices mix recent vintages. Auction prices are what one lot sold for, with the buyer's premium but before shipping, tax and storage. A restaurant price includes service. Chappellet shows no price for the wine on its website, so we leave the winery out.
For the vintages in the table below, shop medians run from $291 for the 2017 to $413 for the 2012. The two 100-point vintages also lead at auction: the 2016 has the highest median of any vintage, $257 from 105 sales, and the 2012 sold for a median of $224 across 95 sales.
Medians per 750 ml, 2012 to 2022 vintages with at least five shop sellers and five auction sales.
